The origin of this game lies in an older game known as Primero, a game that was played as America fought for independence. It is still played regularly in the United Kingdom to date.
The second version is the Stud version and it is also commonly played. Here, the cards are arranged in a certain combination, with some cards facing up and others facing down. Bets are placed after each round of arranged cards. After the straight version, this version is the oldest variation of the game. With the stud, the seven card version is most popular. Here, each player is given two extra cards to make the best five card hand they possibly could.
The draw version is also quite popular among many players. It is played by dealing cards to every player, with all cards facing down. Players place bets, and if they are not satisfied with their hand, they have the option of discarding a card and getting another random card in its place. Among all variations of the game, it is the most popular.
Flop poker, also known as community card poker is the last variation in this interesting family. Here, players are dealt a hand that is not complete, and a number of cards placed on the table facing up. Two variants of the Flop, known as Omaha and Texas hold em are most popular among community card players.
There are other variants of the game, although they are mostly informal and less common. By definition, most games that involve dealing cards are referred to as poker. Among them is video poker. This popular video game works like a slot machine, and play the draw version of the game. The amount paid out to players depends on how much they place as bets initially, and the hand they draw eventually.
