There are many ways that you can hang out with your friends. You could go see a movie together, watch sports, or play some kind of board game. Lots of people love to have a poker night every week however. If you’re looking to host a game at your place every Friday, here are some tips to get you started.
You should start out by contacting all the people you know that enjoy playing cards and in particular poker. Chances are there will be a lot of people interested in having a weekly get together. Ask your friends, family members, and co workers if they know anyone who’d be interested as well. The size of your game will depend on how many people you ask to join.
Once you know how many people are coming to play, you should make sure that you have enough seating for everybody that will be arriving. You don’t want to have people standing up, as they will be rather uncomfortable. Typically, you can have about ten players per table. If you have fourteen or fifteen, try dividing everybody into two groups and have two games running at once.
You’ll also have to decide on whether you want to play cash games or even tournaments. In a tournament, every participant buys in for a specific amount and everyone plays until only one participant remains. In order to speed up the process, have the blinds go up every thirty minutes or so. If you don’t increase the blinds, it will be incredibly difficult for people to be eliminated from the tournament.
Cash games are different from tournaments in that you can re buy into the game after you’ve lost all your chips. It can be fun to play cash games because people won’t have to leave the event after they go broke for example. Sometimes people will host a tournament and run a cash game on the side when people get eliminated from the tournament.
It’s important to get some high quality poker chips for your game. Without chips, you will have no way of figuring out how much money each person has unless they put down actual cash. Remember that the higher quality the chip, the less likely it is that it will break. It will also give your game more of a casino-like feel.
Remember to set the stakes at the beginning of the game of poker. You want to make the game affordable for everyone. If the stakes are too high people might become uneasy and have some hostility towards each other. Try to keep the game friendly and the stakes low. Try not to have people buy in for more than five, ten, or twenty dollars.
Be sure to call the people ahead of time when planning a game of poker. You want to remind them that you’re playing cards that night, so that people will remember to show up. You should either ask people to bring their own drinks, or provide refreshment for everyone.
Organizing a poker game can be a great way to hang out with your buddies on a Friday or Saturday night for example. Remember to read up on the rules of how to play so that there are no mistakes during a game. Have fun!
